RetroArch is a frontend app for emulators that allows you to easily play classic games on your iPhone or iPad. It is completely free and has no ads, so it is loved by many gamers. Download RetroArch iPA for iOS for free with the latest version at iOSGods now!
Key features of RetroArch iPA for iOS
Cross-platform compatibility
With the official version on the App Store, it requires your device to be iOS 14.2 or later for the installation to be available. However, you can still install RetroArch on older devices (but it must be iOS 9.0 or later) through the iPA file we shared. Besides, you can also install this app on Apple TV.
Core support
RetroArch iPA has the ability to strongly support up to 80 emulator cores, not just supporting independent emulator cores like some other emulators on iOS. Some notable cores include SNES9x for Super Nintendo games, PCSX ReARMed for PlayStation, or Genesis Plus GX for Sega Genesis. This is a feature that I rate RetroArch very highly compared to many other game emulators for iPhone or iPad. This means you can play a lot of games from different console systems, all in the same app like Yuzu Emulator iPA for iOS.
Shader and Filter Options
As you know, the game systems that RetroArch for iOS supports are very diverse, so they can have different graphic styles. If you are worried that RetroArch cannot reproduce its own unique style, don’t worry, because this emulator has more than 50 shaders, which can fully express the specific graphic style of each different game. For example, with the CRT-Royale shader, the experience of playing games on a classic CRT screen is completely reproduced, while 2xBRZ and HQ4x improve the sharpness of the image.
Customization Options
With RetroArch iPA latest version, you can completely remap buttons, create your own hotkeys, change the user interface, and even set settings for each core separately. For each different game, this is definitely necessary; it will help you not be constrained by the default console interface but can customize it to your own playing style.
Multiplayer
Did you know that RetroArch for iPhone also supports online multiplayer for some compatible games? That’s thanks to the application’s “netplay” feature; you can match up with friends or other players around the world, whether it’s classic titles or games that require coordination. Notably, RetroArch’s Netplay also supports spectator mode, so you can watch other people’s games. You can check out some of the current games that support multiplayer through this link: http://lobby.libretro.com/, as well as how to join the game.
Save and Rewind
Easily save your game progress anywhere in the game with RetroArch’s hotkeys, and you can save up to 10 states per game. The rewind feature also lets you go back to the last moment, which is useful when you want to retry a difficult part or fix a bug. You can also customize the rewind interval length for each core, making for a more flexible and convenient gaming experience.
Achievements and Leaderboards
Few iOS emulators integrate a leaderboard feature like RetroArch. With RetroAchievements, you can unlock achievements in over 4,000 games and make your name on the game’s honor roll.
Library Management
The app also scans and identifies your ZIP files and ROMs if you want to integrate your own games. The app will automatically generate cover art and add metadata for each game on the fly.

Controller Configuration
RetroArch supports both touch controls and external Bluetooth controllers. If you have a Bluetooth controller (like mFi), connect it to your device for a better experience. For touch controls, use the on-screen buttons.
To Configure Your Controller:
- Open RetroArch and tap on the Settings button.
- Go to Input, then Hotkeys.
- Set a combo for Menu Toggle (Controller Combo) to access the RetroArch menu while playing.
Changing the User Interface
- Tap on the Gear icon in the main menu.
- Go to Drivers, then select Menu Driver. Options include:
- glui (default)
- ozone (dual panels)
- rgui (classic)
- xmb (PlayStation-like interface)
- After selecting your preferred interface, swipe up from the bottom of your device to bring up the app switcher.
- Force-close RetroArch and reopen it to apply changes.
Importing Games
On iOS (iPhone, iPad)
- After running RetroArch, open the Files app on your device.
- Go to Browse >> Tap on On My iPhone/iPad. You should see a folder named RetroArch.
- Copy your ROMs and BIOS files into the appropriate directories inside this RetroArch folder. For example:
- For BIOS files: Place them in On My iPhone/iPad -> Documents -> RetroArch -> RetroArch -> System.
- For ROM files: Place them in My iPhone/iPad -> Documents -> RetroArch -> RetroArch -> Roms.
On tvOS
- Launch the app; it will show you a local IP address on the screen.
- On a computer (which is connected to the same network as the TV), open a web browser.
- Enter the local IP address shown by RetroArch.
- Go to the downloads folder, which is ~/Library/Caches/RetroArch/downloads in the app.
- From here, you can create subfolders and upload/download files into this folder. Then drag and drop your ROMs and other content into this downloads folder.
Additional Tips for RetroArch iOS
- On both platforms, Apple’s sandboxing restrictions prevent you from loading ROMs from outside of the designated RetroArch directories.
- When importing games from other locations (iCloud) RetroArch will copy those games into its own directory structure35.
- Make sure you have enough storage space for all your ROMs and BIOS files.
- If games crash when loading, try using different cores for your ROMs (e.g., psxrearmed for PS1 games).
- Save your configuration after making changes by going back to the home menu, selecting configuration file, and saving it.
- Enable haptic feedback for a more tactile experience by going to Settings > Input > Haptic Feedback.
